Editing The First Rough Draft (Blog #36) PRODUCTION

Editing my two-minute film opening using CapCut has been one of the smoothest parts of the entire project. After experiencing how challenging and draining the first day of filming was, I was surprised by how straightforward and enjoyable the editing process turned out to be. CapCut is very easy to navigate, and its simple layout makes everything super easy to use and get a handle on, having background knowledge of the program also helped a lot to be effective.  Because of this, I was able to focus on putting a rough draft of my film opening together creatively rather than getting frustrated with technical problems.

Throughout the editing process, I have yet to run into any issues with the software, which made the experience feel even more stress-free. Trimming clips, arranging scenes, and making small adjustments all felt quick and manageable. Editing became the most relaxing part of the project, as it has allowed me to see my idea slowly come to life and has allowed me to see what I can improve, what’s good and what’s missing. Watching the footage come together into a structured film opening has been a great help to really get a visual of what the finale result will somewhat look like.

To stay organized while editing, I chose to include black scenes between sections with the scene number displayed on top. This method helped me clearly see the order of each scene and made it easier to track what I had already added and what still needed to be included. It also prevented confusion on my part when moving clips around, as I could quickly identify where each scene belonged.

Overall, editing in CapCut so far has been a very positive experience and has felt like a relief compared to other stages of production. It gave me a sense of clarity and control over my work, which I hadn’t felt in the beginning of the project. Editing has easily been the simplest and most satisfying part of creating my film opening, as it allowed a big part of the project to come together in a clear and organized way in the very first rough draft.
